The Winner Is...

Yesterday we had the drawing for the winner of the big-screen TV. To be eligible, patients needed to refer another patient to the practice. There were many patients in the drawing. The Orange County Fire Authority Station 17 stopped by to help us pick the winner, Russell Clark. He was so excited to win. Readers may be interested to know that these wreaths -- some 5,000 -- are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine. The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992. A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state.

Make a Flake Find a Flake

Cypress Family Dental is launching their first-ever website game! Go to our website, www.drdonwood.com, and find the hidden snowflake. When you find it, email Jayme.drdonwood@gmail.com and let her know where the snowflake is. You will be entered into a drawing to win a Winter Survival Basket!

We are also hosting an in-office game as well, Make a Flake. Make a snowflake out of white paper to decorate our reception area, and your name will be entered into a drawing to win one of several Dairy Queen Blizzards.

Patient Appreciation Game

Our new patient appreciation game is now up in our office! Stop by and play Baby Picture Match for a chance to win a $25 iTunes gift card. Just match the baby picture to the staff member. The game runs until August 15, so hurry in!

Tips for Children

Everyone who has children knows how difficult it can be to get kids to brush their teeth. So this week, we are sharing tips to get kids to not only brush their teeth, but hopefully enjoy it and get the whole family involved!

1. Buy children their own toothbrush. Their are dozens of toothbrushes on the market, available in sizes for infants to adolescents. They come in all different colors, some have cartoon characters, and some even light up and play music. If your child helps pick out the toothbrush they like, they are more inclined to want to brush their teeth.

2. Buy a child-friendly toothpaste. Adult toothpastes with tartar control and whitening properties often don't taste good to children. So, invest in a toothpaste for kids. They come in glitter, different flavors, and feature different characters on the tubes.

3. When it comes time to brush, get the whole family involved. Children, especially little ones, love to imitate grown-ups. If the entire family brushes their teeth at the same time, children are more likely to brush, and also witness the positive example their parents are providing.

4. To get children to brush for a full two minutes, play their favorite song. They have to brush the entire length of the song before they are finished. This makes a game of brushing, and everyone gets to listen to music in the morning!

5. Don't make going to the dentist a scary prospect. Children pick up on their parents' anxieties, and will pay attention to words like "hurt" or "pain." If kids think going to the dentist is an adventure, they will be more likely to enjoy going, and will go their whole lives!

Remember, good dental habits start when we are young. Teach your children to properly care for their teeth, and they will take care of them for life!

Valentine's Dance

This past Friday, February 13, Dr. Wood and Cypress Family Dental hosted a Valentine's Day dinner and dance in appreciate for their loyal patients 60 and over. With a catered roast beef dinner, live music provided by the Stephan Gamboa band, and a fantastic turnout, the first ever Valentine's Dinner and Dance was a fantastic success!

This past winter, Dr. Wood took the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor course. He is now certified to teach scuba diving, as well as six specialty areas. We are very proud of Dr. Wood! Here he is, third from left, proudly displaying his certificate. Congratulations!
